Starting the New Year’s with resolutions is a perfect opportunity for you and your child to discuss areas in which there’s room for improvement — for the whole family! To get started, talk about what a resolution is. It is a hard concept for younger children. So maybe talk about making new promises! For older children, they can explore how traditions of making resolutions came to be online or at the library. (The practice of making New Year’s resolutions goes back over 3,000 years!)
The next step, is to pray to the Lord for wisdom (James 1:5) and God’s strength to help you. Accountability with the whole family can be a help and an encouragment! Remember to not become discouraged with occasional failures; they might motivate everyone more! Remember to give God the glory. Psalm 37:5-6 says Commit your way to the LORD; trust in him and he will do this: He will make your righteousness shine like the dawn, the justice of your cause like the noonday sun.”
